Basketball Recap: Normal West Takes a Loss

Normal West's game on Friday was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a hard 50-36 fall against the Richwoods Knights. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while the Knights are ranked 143rd).

Despite the loss, Normal West saw an underclassman step up: freshman Chase Sennett posted ten points and five rebounds. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for Sennett. Michael Zaleski was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Normal West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Normal West is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6. As for Richwoods, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Normal West will venture away from home to face off against Mt. Zion at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Zion will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Normal West surely won't give up without a fight. As for Richwoods, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-58 defeat against Lanphier on the 14th.
