Softball Recap: Ephrata Comes Up Short

Ephrata had lost five straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it six. They lost 14-4 to the Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 back in April.

Jordin Rojas made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Kaliana Auchey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Lampeter-Strasburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

On Lampeter-Strasburg's side, Paige Baxter was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Baxter has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chloe Meck was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Mack, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Ephrata does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lampeter-Strasburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northern Lebanon at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
