Basketball Recap: Gaston Christian Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Gaston Christian walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 64-49 victory over the Asheville School (Independent) Blues on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Blues: they've now won five in a row.

Cameron Newman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 25 points along with seven steals and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Giannis Katsoulas, who posted ten points and three steals.

Gaston Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Gaston Christian pushed their record up to 24-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points over those games. As for Asheville School (Independent), their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.

Looking ahead, Gaston Christian will challenge Asheville Christian Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Gaston Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matchups. Asheville School (Independent) does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
