It was Gate City's first state crown after four other failed appearances in the state finals.
McClung, a Georgetown signee, finished with 2,801 career points, breaking the record of 2,770. Earlier in the season he broke the single-season record for most points previously held by Allen Iverson.

Zac Ervin added 26 points and eight rebounds.
McClung finished things with a reverse dunk with 26 seconds to play, to the delight of the crowd.
"It feels like you've finished what you've set out to do," McClung told the
Kingsport Times-News. "When I was in the seventh or eighth grade, (Gate City lost a state title game) and I told coach, ‘We're going to win a state title for you.' "
