After flying high against Trinity Collegiate on Friday, South Florence came back down to earth. The South Florence Bruins fell 63-53 to the Atlantic Collegiate Academy Armada on Saturday. The Bruins' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, South Florence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josh Gamble went 8 of 14 on his way to 23 points. Gamble continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarius Davis, who posted 16 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Atlantic Collegiate Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Clayton Hemingway, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Bellamy, who went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points.
South Florence's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Atlantic Collegiate Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
South Florence wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-41 win against Marlboro County on the 29th. As for Atlantic Collegiate Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-61 victory against Crestwood on the 29th.
