Volleyball Recap: Woburn Memorial Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Arlington

Woburn Memorial faced Arlington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Tanners fell just short of the Spy Ponders by a score of 3-2. The Tanners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spy Ponders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Woburn Memorial wouldn't go down easily and took Arlington into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 21-25, 17-15.

Trey Skumin paced Woburn Memorial's offense, picking up 13 kills. Skumin got some help from Mateo Qirjazi and his 31 assists. Ryan Le and Joao Vasconcelos kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

Woburn Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Arlington, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Coming up, Woburn Memorial will head out to challenge North Andover at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Arlington, they will welcome Somerville at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Spy Ponders surely won't give up without a fight.
