Recap: Omaha Central Eagles vs. Millard West Wildcats

After a string of 11 wins, the Omaha Central Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a hard 60-45 fall against Millard West. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Omaha Central has scored all season.

Omaha Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amiyja Hughes, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Inia Jones, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Omaha Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Millard West was led to victory by Kylee Paben and Neleigh Gessert. Paben dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Gessert scored 30 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gessert has scored at least 25% of Millard West's points.

Omaha Central's defeat dropped their record down to 11-1. As for Millard West, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Omaha Central is on the road again on Friday and play against Millard North at 5:30 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Millard North focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. Millard West and Gretna East will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Gretna East will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Millard West is ranked fourth).
