Basketball Recap: St. John Paul II Comes Up Short

St. John Paul II was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 31-29 heartbreaker at the hands of the Franklin County Seahawks. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly two points.

Despite the loss, St. John Paul II saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alyssa Jacobs posted 12 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. With that strong performance, Jacobs is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Aliyah Medrano was another key player, putting up three points along with 14 rebounds and five assists.

Leading Franklin County to victory were Sa?Ryiah McNair and Gregreyauna Griffin. McNair had 11 points, while Griffin put up ten points. That makes it four consecutive games in which McNair has scored at least a third of Franklin County's points.

St. John Paul II's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Franklin County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4.

St. John Paul II has already played their next match (against Maclay), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Franklin County will face off against North Bay Haven Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Franklin County's defense has only allowed 29 points per game this season, so North Bay Haven Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
