Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Yamil Rondon and Griffin Starks Lead Newport to Victory

Newport won the last time they faced Holy Cross and things went their way on Saturday too. The Newport Wildcats walked away with a 70-59 victory over the Holy Cross Indians. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Newport was led to victory by Griffin Starks and Yamil Rondon. Starks dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Rondon went 8 of 12 on his way to 23 points and seven assists. With that strong performance, Rondon is now averaging an impressive 15.8 points per game. DaShawn Anderson was another key player, putting up seven points along with six boards and five assists.

Newport pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Holy Cross, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6.

Newport will face off against Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Holy Cross, they will square off against Grant County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
