Basketball Game Preview: Bedford Bearcats vs. Mayfield Wildcats

The Bedford Bearcats are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the Mayfield Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Bedford is leaving town to face Mayfield after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Bearcats took a 62-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Ignatius on Saturday.

Bedford's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kevin Woodgett, who went 6-for-13 on his way to 20 points and five assists, and Aaron Mcguinea, who shot 44% from the field en route to 19 points and seven boards. Daverion Lovejoy was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Mayfield had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 73-65 to Nordonia on Saturday. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Bedford beat Mayfield 80-70 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Wildcats' Izzy Austin, who went 10-for-19 to rack up 25 points and five boards. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Bearcats still be able to contain Austin? There's only one way to find out.
