Softball Recap: Vallivue Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

After soaring to 11 runs the game before, Vallivue was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Caldwell Cougars. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Maris Farner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Vallivue saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ali Knowles, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Another was Kenley Leuthold, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Vallivue's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3. As for Caldwell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vallivue will challenge Columbia at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbia has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.5 runs per game on average), something Vallivue will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Caldwell, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Caldwell Cougars duke it out with Borah Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: Borah has averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
