Basketball Game Preview: Ocean Lakes Dolphins vs. Salem Sundevils

Ocean Lakes is 2-8 against Salem since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ocean Lakes Dolphins will venture away from home to challenge the Salem Sundevils at 7:00 p.m. Salem took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Ocean Lakes, who comes in off a win.

Ocean Lakes will bounce into Friday's game after beating Kempsville, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Ocean Lakes strolled past Kempsville with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 53-38. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dolphins.

Samara Williams continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 18 boards. She has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 20 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmyn Miller, who posted 12 points.

Meanwhile, Salem was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kellam. While losing is never fun, the Sundevils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Knights are ranked 18th).

The win got Ocean Lakes back to even at 4-4. As for Salem, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-5.

Ocean Lakes was dealt a bruising 57-26 loss at the hands of Salem when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Ocean Lakes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
