Baseball Game Preview: Dexter Dreadnaughts vs. Pioneer Pioneers

The Dexter Dreadnaughts will head out to take on the Pioneer Pioneers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dexter's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Pioneer's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Saturday, it was close, but Dexter sidestepped Whiteford for a 3-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dreadnaughts.

Matt Clayton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dexter's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Connor Robeson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Noah Fernando was another, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Meanwhile, Pioneer unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Tecumseh by a score of 9-8.

Dexter's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Pioneer, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.

Dexter couldn't quite get it done against Pioneer when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Dreadnaughts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
