Softball Preview: Saranac Spartans vs. Plattsburgh Hornets

Saranac and Plattsburgh are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Saranac Spartans are on the road again on Friday to play the Plattsburgh Hornets at 4:30 p.m. Saranac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.

In what's become a running theme this season, Saranac gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 14-2 margin over Beekmantown.

Irelyn Ryan made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Ryan has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive pitching appearances. Ryan was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and a triple.

In other batting news, Molly Denis was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Recore, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Plattsburgh might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 13-8 to Peru, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Plattsburgh has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Saranac's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Plattsburgh, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
