Basketball Recap: Oakland Mills Comes Up Short

Oakland Mills was the 57-53 winner over Marriotts Ridge when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Oakland Mills Scorpions fell 57-49 to Marriotts Ridge on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Marriotts Ridge are ranked 97th).

Marriotts Ridge was led to victory by Restia Whitaker and Aaron Hammann. Whitaker en route to 21 points and five steals, while Hammann posted 16 points and five rebounds. Those five steals gave Whitaker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Willingham, who had seven points and three steals.

Oakland Mills' loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Marriotts Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Oakland Mills has already played their next contest (against Lansdowne), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Marriotts Ridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glenelg at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Marriotts Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
