The Erie Tigers will challenge the Greeley West Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Erie knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Greeley West likes a good challenge.
While Erie didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Centaurus by a score of 10-5 on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.
Peyton Watts looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Kodie Shafter and Ronin Ward did most of the damage at the plate: Shafter went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Ward scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Austin Muir was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Greeley West's offense. They lost 17-0 to Rocky Mountain on Thursday. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Lobos recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Erie pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Greeley West, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Greeley West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Erie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. It's a different story for Greeley West, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Erie's hitters?
Erie took their victory against Greeley West in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 6-0. Will Erie repeat their success, or does Greeley West has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
