South Decatur won against Waldron on Thursday with 19 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Cougars blew past the Mohawks 19-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-1 on Thursday.
Riley Benge was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Benge was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, South Decatur got a massive performance out of Raegan Benge, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Daisy Martin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
South Decatur was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
South Decatur's win ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-6. As for Waldron, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Decatur will head out to challenge Morristown at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellow Jackets have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Waldron, they are taking a road trip to square off against North Decatur at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
