Basketball Recap: Avery Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kit Carson over Cheraw

After flying high against Holly back in December of 2024, Kit Carson came back down to earth. The Kit Carson Wildcats took a 46-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cheraw Wolverines on Friday. The Wildcats were up 17-3 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Kit Carson lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Avery Johnson, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tressie Golding, who had ten points.

Kit Carson's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Cheraw, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Kit Carson won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Elbert at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cheraw, they and Swink will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
