Softball Recap: Wayne Trace Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Edgerton, Wayne Trace was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 15-12 win over the Elida Bulldogs. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Raiders considering their two-run performance the game before.

Raegan McGarvey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Wayne Trace got a massive performance out of Brooke Tigner, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave Tigner a new career-high. Olivia Zartman was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Wayne Trace hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elida struck out nine times.

The victory got Wayne Trace back to even at 10-10. As for Elida, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.

Coming up, Wayne Trace will challenge Wauseon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Elida, they will take on Defiance at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elida's pitchers better be ready for this one: Defiance has averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
