Football Recap: E.J. Hanney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sam Houston over Lafayette + How To Watch

If Sam Houston was riding high fresh off their 34-14 takedown of Sulphur last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Broncos took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lafayette Lions on Friday. The Broncos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Sam Houston lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was E.J. Hanney, who rushed for 218 yards and one score while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 138 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Breaux, who rushed for 31 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Sam Houston now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Lafayette, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
