Basketball Recap: Eric Landowski and Jack Primus Secure Win for Upsala

Upsala entered their tilt with Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 70-59 victory over the Bertha-Hewitt Bears. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while the Bears are ranked 399th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Upsala was led to victory by Jack Primus and Eric Landowski. Primus almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Landowski almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave Landowski a new career-high in steals (six). Another player making a difference was Samuel Laliberte, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 15 points.

Upsala smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 48 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Upsala's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Bertha-Hewitt, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

Coming up, Upsala will square off against St. John's Prep at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Upsala's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups. As for Bertha-Hewitt, they will take on Sebeka at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sebeka is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season.
