Basketball Game Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Fairfield Falcons

Valley is 0-3 against Fairfield since December of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Valley Vikings will look to defend their home court against the Fairfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 76-43, which was the final score in Valley's tilt against Foothill on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1256th, while the Mustangs are ranked 438th).

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Fairfield's strategy against Armijo on Friday. Fairfield enjoyed a cozy 61-43 victory over Armijo.

Valley better keep an eye on Johnnie Jones. He was instrumental in Fairfield's win, almost dropping a double-double on 32 points and nine rebounds. Those 32 points gave Jones a new career-high. Ivan Lopez was another key player, putting up nine points.

Fairfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Fairfield is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-17.

Valley suffered a grim 60-35 defeat to Fairfield in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jones, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards.
