Baseball Recap: Wendell Sets Scoring Season-High Against Soda Springs

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wendell). Everything went their way against the Soda Springs Cardinals on Thursday as they made off with a 23-2 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Gunner Jones made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Julian Ponce was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zayden Rogers, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI.

Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Soda Springs only managed one hit.

Wendell's win bumped their record up to 8-13-1. As for Soda Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11-1.

Coming up, Wendell will face off against Malad at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. Soda Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
