Softball Game Preview: Claymont Mustangs vs. Tuscarawas Valley Trojans

For the second straight game, Claymont will face off against Tuscarawas Valley. The Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Claymont had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Tuscarawas Valley put an end to it on Monday. The Mustangs came up short against the Trojans, falling 9-1. The matchup marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

For Tuscarawas Valley's part, Brennen Reichman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on zero hits and racked up 18 Ks. Those 18 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Reichman.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Arieana Wade, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Hailee Rotunno also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Wade wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Tuscarawas Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory keeps Tuscarawas Valley at an undefeated 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Claymont, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3.
