Basketball Game Preview: Whitman Vikings vs. Churchill Bulldogs

Whitman and Churchill are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Whitman Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Churchill Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Whitman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season.

Whitman is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They managed a 70-65 victory over Oakdale on Friday. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Oakdale are ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Max Williams, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points along with six assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Brown, who posted 21 points.

Meanwhile, Churchill ended up a good deal behind Lanham Christian on Saturday and lost 59-40. The matchup marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Churchill has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Whitman, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Whitman didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Churchill when the teams last played back in February, but they still walked away with a 68-63 victory. Will Whitman repeat their success, or does Churchill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
