Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Venice's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Venice lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Riverview Sarasota, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. The Indians blew past the Rams 7-1 on Wednesday. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Jayde Neptune spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Riley Sullivan was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Sullivan, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Riley wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Venice lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Venice has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Riverview Sarasota, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-4.

Coming up, Venice will be playing at home against Frostproof at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Riverview Sarasota, they will venture away from home to take on Lemon Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams will need to watch out since the Manta Rays have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
