Softball Game Preview: Anthem Prep Eagles vs. Maryvale Prep Matador

The Anthem Prep Eagles will face off against the Maryvale Prep Matador at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Anthem Prep's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Maryvale Prep has been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

On Friday, Anthem Prep needed a bit of extra time to put away Bagdad. They skirted past the Sultans 2-1.

Bailey McCabe spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Anthem Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madi Hatfield, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Maryvale Prep couldn't beat Desert Heights Prep on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Matador came up short against the Yote, falling 20-4.

Anthem Prep is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Maryvale Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Anthem Prep hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Maryvale Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Everything went Anthem Prep's way against Maryvale Prep in their previous matchup on April 2nd, as Anthem Prep made off with a 25-2 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Matador have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
