Softball Recap: Niles West Victorious

After only two runs in their last matchup, Niles West made sure to put some runs up on the board against Vernon Hills on Thursday. The Wolves came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 10-7. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Niles West let Ava Kolbe and Mia Mendoza run wild. Kolbe went 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Mendoza went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave Mendoza a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Penny Hutchison, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Niles West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Niles West's win bumped their record up to 9-14. As for Vernon Hills, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-20 record this season.
