Preview: Collins Tigers vs. Richton Rebels
Collins has enjoyed a eight-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Richton Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Richton took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Collins, who comes in off a win.
Even though Collins has not done well against Jefferson County recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way last Saturday. Collins walked away with a 45-35 victory over Jefferson County. The victory was just what Collins needed coming off of a 61-25 loss in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Richton ended up a good deal behind Heidelberg on Thursday and lost 59-42. While losing is never fun, Richton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Heidelberg is ranked 61st).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Nylah Robins, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Collins' victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15. As for Richton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season.
Collins beat Richton 39-30 in their previous meeting back in February of 2019. Will Collins repeat their success, or does Richton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
