Baseball Recap: Freeport Sets Scoring Season-High Against Wildwood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Freeport). They were the clear victor by a 17-0 margin over the Wildwood Wildcats on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

The team relied heavily on Carson Vogler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Niles King III, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Vogler wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Freeport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for Freeport: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.

Freeport has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Wildwood is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, Freeport will look to defend their home field on March 25th against Booker T. Washington at 6:30 p.m. As for Wildwood, they are taking a road trip to square off against Real Life Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th.
