Basketball Recap: Hudson Roberson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Columbia

Hobgood Charter posted their closest victory since January 23, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 53-51 win over the Columbia Wildcats. That's more bragging rights for the Raiders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Hobgood Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hudson Roberson led the charge by putting up 20 points along with five boards and five steals. Roberson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Khrie Rascoe was another key player, going 5 for 12 on his way to 12 points and five steals.

Despite the loss, Columbia still got an impressive performance from Jayden Sawyer, who went 11 of 18 en route to 29 points and eight rebounds. That was a full 56.9% of Columbia's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Evan McQuigg, who had eight points.

The victory made it two in a row for Hobgood Charter and bumps their season record up to 5-6. As for Columbia, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hobgood Charter will take on Bear Grass Charter at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. As for Columbia, they will look to defend their home court on January 24th against Mattamuskeet at 7:30 p.m.
