Baseball Recap: Bergen Catholic's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Bergen Catholic dropped their record down to 15-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the St. Joseph Regional Green Knights by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Green Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 on Monday.

As for St. Joseph Regional, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For St. Joseph Regional's part, Danny Alvarez looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Alvarez has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brady Shust and Lorenzo Zeccardi did most of the damage at the plate: Shust went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI, while Zeccardi went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That triple was Shust's first of the season.

Bergen Catholic and St. Joseph Regional should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Crusaders (ranked eighth) will meet Northern Highlands (ranked 108th) at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, St. Joseph Regional will square off against Tenafly at 4:15 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (31 vs. 329).
