Basketball Game Preview: Cristo Rey Cougar vs. Centerburg Trojans

The Cristo Rey Cougar and the Centerburg Trojans will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Cristo Rey will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

Cristo Rey is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Grandview Heights on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Cristo Rey was beaten by Grandview Heights 66-32. The Cougar were down 53-24 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Cristo Rey got top-tier performance from Nate Getahun, who posted 19 points. That was a full 59.4% of Cristo Rey's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Croom, who put up six points.

Meanwhile, Centerburg unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 52-45 to Parkway.

Centerburg's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Cristo Rey, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Cristo Rey took a serious blow against Centerburg when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 72-27. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cristo Rey was down 46-22.
