Basketball Recap: Franklin Heights Comes Up Short

Franklin Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 57-20 loss at the hands of the Whitehall-Yearling Rams. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 665th, while the Rams are ranked 207th).

Despite the loss, Franklin Heights still got an impressive performance from Riley Hambel, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

Whitehall-Yearling's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyeona Myers led the charge by going 9 for 16 to rack up 21 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Myers is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Jayla Dukes was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.

Franklin Heights' loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Whitehall-Yearling, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Coming up, Franklin Heights will challenge Teays Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Whitehall-Yearling, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-53 win against Varsity Opponent on the 8th.
