Baseball Game Preview: Steeleville Warriors vs. Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats

The Steeleville Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Steeleville made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Murphysboro, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Steeleville was the clear victor by an 8-1 margin over Murphysboro on Thursday.

Cale Newby was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carson Rednour, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Anna-Jonesboro hadn't done well against Goreville recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Anna-Jonesboro came out on top against Goreville by a score of 5-1.

The team relied heavily on Taj Hodges, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. Trevor Goins also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Steeleville's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Anna-Jonesboro, their record is now 2-3.

Steeleville might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Anna-Jonesboro in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Steeleville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
