Softball Game Preview: Devine Warhorses vs. Jourdanton Indians/Squaws

Devine is 2-7 against Jourdanton since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Warhorses are taking a road trip to take on the Indians/Squaws at 6:00 p.m. Devine's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Jourdanton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Devine will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Somerset on Thursday. The Warhorses came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 11-8.

Meanwhile, Jourdanton came tearing into Thursday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians/Squaws have posted since February 27th.

Hailey Sralik was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bobbiejo Gonzales, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Savannah Schuchart was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Devine is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Jourdanton, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-12.

Devine came up short against Jourdanton in their previous meeting back in February, falling 6-3. Can the Warhorses avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
