Mount Airy has gone a perfect 10-0 against Alleghany recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mount Airy Granite Bears will head out to take on the Alleghany Trojans at 6:30 p.m. Mount Airy will be strutting in after a victory while Alleghany will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Wednesday, Mount Airy earned a 36-25 win over Elkin.

Da'Nya Mills was her usual excellent self, putting up nine points and six rebounds. Greer Tidd also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Meanwhile, Alleghany was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 58-37 to Starmount. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 418th, while the Rams are ranked 170th).

Despite the defeat, Alleghany saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Elizabeth 'Ellie' Collins went 5-for-6 on her way to 10 points. 'Ellie' Collins also set a new season-high mark in shooting accuracy with 83%. Ellie Crouse was another key player, earning six points.

Even though they lost, Alleghany was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Starmount only posted five assists.

Mount Airy is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season. As for Alleghany, their loss dropped their record down to 4-17.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mount Airy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Alleghany struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Mount Airy beat Alleghany 25-14 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount Airy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
