Softball Recap: Maxwell Panthers vs. Biggs Wolverines

Maxwell extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-20 in the process. They came up short against the Biggs Wolverines, falling 24-2. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 12-0 to the Wolverines when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Biggs, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

For Biggs' part, Gracie Sheppard was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Sheppard has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Arden Vines was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Mailey Seipert, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Biggs beat Maxwell by a score of 15-4 later that day.
