Baseball Game Preview: Seton Catholic Central Saints vs. Owego Free Academy River Hawks

For the second straight game, Seton Catholic Central will face off against Owego Free Academy. The Saints will head out to face off against the River Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Seton Catholic Central's last matchup with Owego Free Academy could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Monday. The Saints lost 12-2 to the River Hawks. The defeat continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the River Hawks: they've now lost seven in a row.

For Owego Free Academy's part, Elijah Lewis was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Lewis has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evan English, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Matt Higgins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Owego Free Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Seton Catholic Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Owego Free Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2-1.
