Basketball Recap: Red Lake Comes Up Short

Red Lake won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They took a blow against the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers, falling 85-51. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Panthers are ranked 161st).

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andrew Roy, who posted ten points and five steals. Those five steals gave Roy a new career-high. Ryan Kingbird was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Red Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Red Lake has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Cass Lake-Bena, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Red Lake has already played their next game, a 93-57 loss against Deer River on the 14th. As for Cass Lake-Bena, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-69 defeat against Pine River-Backus on the 16th.
