Football Game Preview: Strawberry Crest Chargers vs. Sumner Stingrays + How To Watch

The Strawberry Crest Chargers will challenge the Sumner Stingrays at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Strawberry Crest lost 37-13 to Plant City on Friday. The game marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite their defeat, Strawberry Crest saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sevin Bagnato, who threw for 169 yards and two TDs, was perhaps the best of all.

Meanwhile, Sumner didn't have too much trouble with Hillsborough on Friday as they won 24-7. Given the Stingrays' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Terriers are ranked 237th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Strawberry Crest better keep an eye on Taesean Robinson. He was instrumental in Sumner's win, picking up 80 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Sumner didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Hillsborough to a completion percentage of just 41.7%. The team can thank Jonathan Rollins for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Sumner; they were averaging 59.6%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three contests they've fallen to only 59.6%.

Sumner's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jayden Porter and Damarion Evans, who racked up four sacks between them. Evans is becoming a predictor of Sumner's success: when he posts at least one sack the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

Sumner has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.2 points over those games. As for Strawberry Crest, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Strawberry Crest was taken down by Sumner 45-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Chargers were down 31-7.
