League recap: Berks Catholic tops Newport to extend winning streak

Berks Inter-County 2 recap November 13, 2013

Berks Catholic added to the longest winning streak in Berks Inter-County 2 this week by beating Newport, 59-14. The victory was the 11th in a row for the Saints.

Wyomissing scaled the state rankings by moving to 171 from 197 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Spartans were able to move up by besting Schuylkill Valley 41-35.

Berks Catholic's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Matt Kase threw for 61 yards and Cooper Kutz had 52 yards receiving. On the ground Chris Warren chipped in 95 yards. Pietro Gaspari helped Berks Catholic's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 48 yards.

The Saints' dynamic duo of Kase and Kutz proved tough for the Buffaloes to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gaspari helped Berks Catholic's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 48 yards.

Warren provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Berks Catholic defeated Newport. Warren's key target this week was Kutz, who caught 3 passes for 52 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Shane Grapsy and Will Bornstein, Blue Mountain has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Grapsy is tops in the league in passing with 1,438 yards, while Bornstein has rushed for 1,158 yards this season. Fleetwood's Michael Allen leads the league in receiving yards with 564 on 34 catches.

The Saints took down Todd Rothermel's team 59-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Warren ran for 95 yards during the win.
