Baseball Recap: University Red Devils vs. Saint Mary's Panthers
University proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 18) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Saint Mary's Panthers 8-6.

Leo Felder was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jett Messenger was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Mattie Grisso was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
University's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Saint Mary's, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
Looking ahead, University will take on Head-Royce at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Head-Royce's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so University's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Saint Mary's, they will challenge Berkeley at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
