Basketball Recap: Frederick's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

After a string of seven wins, Frederick's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Urbana Hawks by a score of 51-49. The Cadets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Leading Urbana to victory were Zizi Etolue and Mackenna Patterson. Etolue dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Patterson posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. Patterson is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiersten Smith, who had nine points and six rebounds.

Frederick's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for Urbana, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Frederick will host Governor Thomas Johnson on Monday. As for Urbana, they will be playing at home against Linganore at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Urbana is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.
