Baseball Recap: Fletcher Victorious

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Fletcher brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lawton Wolverines on Tuesday, sneaking past 12-11. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won five in a row.

Rayce Stoll was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off four hits. Stoll was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Fletcher: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elijah Cagle, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Fletcher's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was EJ Squyres, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Fletcher was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Fletcher now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Lawton, they are on a 31-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Fletcher wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-3 loss against Comanche on the 18th. As for Lawton, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-1 defeat against Lone Grove on the 18th.
