Basketball Recap: Wills Point Comes Up Short

Wills Point was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 55-43 to the Community Braves. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1266th, while the Braves are ranked 495th).

Despite the loss, Wills Point still got an impressive performance from Jett Fletcher, who posted 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Those four steals gave Fletcher a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris James, who put up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Wills Point smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Wills Point's loss dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Community, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wills Point will square off against Farmersville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Community, they will face off against Ford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Ford: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Community has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
