Football Game Preview: Williamstown Braves vs. Cherokee Chiefs

The Williamstown Braves will challenge the Cherokee Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Williamstown took a 21-point loss the last time they faced off against Rancocas Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Braves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 21-18 victory over the Red Devils on Friday.

Williamstown can attribute much of their success to Trey Alexander, who rushed for 133 yards and a pair of TDs, and Tyson Forman, who rushed for 58 yards. Those 133 rushing yards gave Alexander a new career-high.

Another reason for the win was Williamstown's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Ruben Lozada and Aiden Ezeiruaku, who racked up four sacks between them. Ezeiruaku also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.

Meanwhile, Cherokee had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They pulled ahead with a 22-21 photo finish over Shawnee on Friday. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Chiefs were the better team in the second half.

The win got Cherokee back to even at 3-3. As for Williamstown, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
