Petaluma has gone 8-2 against Sonoma Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Dragons at 4:00 p.m. Petaluma is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Petaluma lost a heartbreaker the last time they played American Canyon, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's matchup. The Trojans blew past the Wolves 11-1 on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trojans needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Lily Pardini spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
At the plate, Petaluma got a massive performance out of Bella Hudson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Hudson has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Petaluma kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 10-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Sonoma Valley came out on top against Encinal on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Dragons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Jets. That's two games straight that the Dragons have won by just one run.
Riley Rhodd made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Llanos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Delilah Olivier was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Petaluma pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Sonoma Valley, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-13.
Sonoma Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Petaluma has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Sonoma Valley, though, as they've been averaging 11.6 hits. Given Petaluma's sizable advantage in that area, the Dragons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Petaluma took their win against Sonoma Valley in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 12-1 score. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
