Baseball Game Preview: Southern Aroostook Warriors vs. Ashland Hornets

Southern Aroostook is 8-2 against Ashland since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will look to defend their home field against the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Southern Aroostook and seven for Ashland.

Southern Aroostook came up short against Katahdin on Friday, falling 20-9.

Connor Lilley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Southern Aroostook's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Collier, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Washburn hit Ashland with a eight-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets lost 14-4 to the Beavers.

Southern Aroostook's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Ashland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Everything went Southern Aroostook's way against Ashland in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Southern Aroostook made off with a 19-5 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
