The Elgin Maroons couldn't capitalize on their home-pitch advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Hampshire by a score of 2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Elgin of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elgin will square off against Round Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hampshire, they will head out on the road to square off against Woodstock at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
